Rugby Taggers – Rugby Club Partnership
Rugby Taggers is a growing rugby club open to boys and girls aged 2.5 and over on Saturday mornings at Marden Primary Academy.
Rugby Taggers opened July 2017 originally at the Marden Scout Hut and was our home until December 2019. Re-locating to Marden Primary Academy enabled us to not only accommodate our existing families but also welcome many more into our community.
We have experienced enormous growth since January 2020, even with interruptions caused by the Covid 19 Pandemic. As our growth continues we are keen to create connections with local rugby clubs pre-empting the inevitability of our children moving onto the next level of their rugby career.
Rugby Taggers wishes to establish trusted relationships with local rugby clubs and are inviting you to consider your involvement with our Rugby Taggers ‘Wraparound’ Development Programme.
A Rugby Taggers Partnership causes no conflict of interest since our opening hours will always differ from your club house and fixture timings. Our programme has been created with everyone in mind. rugby clubs, players, families and Rugby Taggers all benefit.
Our ‘Wraparound’ Development Programme is tried and tested. Cranbrook RFC and Tonbridge Juddians RFC have inherited many of our children due to them being our community’s local clubs. TJ’s has also gained Lead Coaches due to parents becoming involved. We would like to create more avenues like this for children coming from other areas surrounding Marden with your involvement.
The flow chart below explains how your rugby club can get involved:

More about Rugby Taggers
Rugby Taggers introduces the fundamentals of rugby to young children through fun and games, as they grow through our age groups these core skills are sharpened and developed further.
Our Tiny Taggers session is for boys and girls aged 2.5-5 years old. A fantastic way to introduce little ones to real outdoor rugby while playing games, having fun, making friends and memories. Parent participation encourages children to grow confident and engage in a social environment. This is true parent/child bonding time and it’s rare to see mobile devices in anyone’s hands!
Our Junior session is for boys and girls aged 6 – 10 (or end of year 6 primary school age). Junior Taggers can be for children from the younger session to progress into or for older children with some/no rugby experience to join. A perfect way for children to learn rugby skills and techniques through activities and playing games plus, if applicable, to prepare them for playing rugby at secondary schools.
Our Tag To Tackle session is for 10-14 year olds and will launch September 22. This session has be designed to progress players skills from tag rugby to full contact rugby. This session will be beneficial for young people who will be attending secondary school and participating in rugby during lessons. During this session, basic fundamentals of contact rugby will be taught in a safe environment, giving the players confidence and correct technique. More than anything, we are interested in creating relationships with clubs so we can direct our families to your best person for a smooth transition from us, to you. For this to happen we welcome a conversation to start this connection.
In terms of promoting Rugby Taggers to your Members, there are many ways it can be done. Together we can explore the best methods and regularity, we will supply all materials for your club to use, paper form and/or digitally and we want to do the same for you too.
